The Butterfly House and Fairy Trail are two of Malahide Castle's most magical experiences - great for all ages.
I am constantly looking for fun things to do with my daughter and its not always easy finding age appropriate activities. Malahide Castle offers incredible experiences for all ages.
Malahide Castle is so easy to get to from Dublin and surrounding areas by car. Dublin Bus routes 32 and 42 connect Dublin city center with Malahide village. The castle is approx. a ten minute walk from Malahide village.
There are so many activities at Malahide Castle including the Magical Castle History Tour however my daughter is only 20 months old so we felt the Fairy Trail and Butterfly House would be the best experience for her.
We prebooked that morning, tickets cost €7.50 per adult and children under 3 years old go free.
The Butterfly House is magical. Although its quite small, there are so many butterflies of all colours and sizes! My daughter, Charlie, loved chasing them as the flew around her and we were able to get so close them. The yellow one was Charlie's favourite. Along with the butterflies there are so many pretty flowers. The colours are so vibrant and it provides great sensory experiences for little minds.
After the Butterfly House we took a walk around some of the gardens, visiting the pond and secret garden.
Then it was time to head for the Fairy Trail. The Fairy Trail is on some of the most gorgeous grounds around the castle. There is tonnes of soft grass area for little ones to run around in complete safety.
There is a pathway which you follow and come to various Fairy houses, doorways and secret spots!
Charlie might have been a bit young to understand the concept of fairies but she still loved knocking on the doors and exploring the trail - she had lots of fun.
